Living Life At It’s Finest

Happy Fourth of July!

Whenever I catch the scent of beach bonfires crackling on that cool Pacific Ocean sand I’m instantly transported back to the days of celebrating The Fourth of July as a kid with my grandparents. My cousins and I wreaked havoc on our grandparents and kept their hands full as we set off smoke bombs in their kitchen and detonated every explosive we could get our hands on.

Happy Father's Day

My father was a talented carpenter and craftsman who worked nearly every single day of my young life. As a boy, watching him work with his hands to fix, repair, and make new again various items that people would bring into his shop, was astonishing and impossible to my young mind.

Happy Mother's Day

Mother’s Day is usually a day of family, everyone being together and celebrating mom. Because the role of being a mom, is one of the most potentially valuable things one could do. Whether you’ve been a working mom or a stay at home mom, the impact you have on your children’s lives is real, and nobody replaces Mom. Who your children grow up to become, how their lives impact society and future generations to follow is a direct influence of the multi-tasking - always knows best - remembers every scar, scrape and scratch - Superstar of the house… mom.

Business Spotlight: Italia Panetteria & Deli

John and Victoria Magnanimo brought their family tradition to the Santa Clarity Valley in the fall of 2008 with the opening of Italia Panetteria & Deli. Upon entering their store you can’t help but browse their shelves lined with bottles of extra virgin olive oil and various tapenade, while smelling freshly baked bread - a family recipe handed down through generations. And what better to put on home-made freshly baked bread, but roast beef that’s actually been roasted and prepared in-house. Not only is their deli case overflowing with various imported and domestic meats and cheeses to choose from, but their freezer is packed with authentic Italian dishes ready to take and bake as well. Try a family favorite, eggplant parmigiana, or purchase pizza dough, fresh ingredients to top it with and house-made sauce, which is all available for you to take home and bake. For dessert, try a cannoli or authentic gelato!

Kintsugi, COVID, & Reshaping How Property Management Works

In spite of all the challenges that were presented to Americans last year, our role as a property manager has never been more visible or more valuable than it is now.

Real Estate and Property Management is ALWAYS impacted by whatever is happening economically and politically. Whether it’s natural disasters, geopolitical uncertainty, stock market fluctuations, or the world of ever-changing technology, we have always been at the center of various struggles and opportunities that are brought in year after year. Obviously, 2020 brought no exception. In fact, COVID-19 and ALL the environmental and cultural reconstructions it brought to our society might just be the greatest test of our property management lives.

Celebrating You

For me, last year was an important one, in that I learned an important lesson. I learned that flexing the muscle of discipline to CHOOSE to focus on gratitude changes everything. And to not only focus on it, but to speak it out loud to others, to practice it and make it a point to tell the people in my life why I am grateful for them, and to notice all the things in my life that are going well for me, big and small.

Wandering Is Good For The Soul

“Going on a drive” is something me and my husband did often when we were dating. Both of us worked for tips during that stage in life, so fancy dinners and trips were usually not an option. However, often during one of our “drives” I discovered a lot about southern California that I never knew existed. New hiking trails, small sleepy towns (that we never actually could manage to find again), some diners that made some of the best breakfasts but also the worst coffee ever, secret beaches (I’ve never known fear like I did the day I used a rope tied to a rock to repel down a cliffside to get to that beach), not to mention some of the best conversations and the hardest laughs of my life. And there’s something about being in the car, driving away, and exploring someplace new that brings such a relief to us both. And when I’m feeling particularly overwhelmed with the state of humanity, the farther the better.

Dear Friends...

This week we took some moments to reflect upon the 30+ years that we’ve been in the Real Estate Industry.

I remember walking house to house pulling my two girls in a wagon, handing out my business cards door to door (the old fashioned version of social networking). I remember feeling the stress of the effects of the ’94 Northridge Earthquake and watching 100% of my escrows and pending sales fall through. I remember trying to reassure our kids during the first recession, that everything would be fine, and then again when one of them graduated college and needed to move home in the middle of the second recession. Not to mention the effects after the horrific events taking place on 9/11.

To say that the real estate business has been cyclical over the past 30 years is a comically massive understatement. Many of us who have been in the business long enough are familiar with having to adjust the way we do business and enlist new strategies in order to come out on the other side of whatever worldwide or local crisis we are in.

Vote "NO" On Prop 13

The new “Prop. 13” will raise taxes to the sky. I can’t believe any property owner would consider, let alone vote for this misleading Prop. 13 lie. The same goes for the California Schools and Local Communities Funding Act! The politicians are trying to dig a hole from which many property owners will never be able to dig themselves out. Please VOTE “NO” “NO” “NO” and thereby tell them to keep their hands out of your pockets.

Tenant Welfare Bill AB 1482

One would think that if it’s the job of an Assemblyman to write a bill that impacts an entire state, then it would be done correctly the first time! Apparently, Mr. Chiu, the author of “Tenant Welfare” AB 1482, has created a lot of confusion throughout the state by writing one thing into law while meaning another in the case of CPI calculation.

The written law clearly states the CPI should be taken from the “region” where the property is located, when, in fact, he meant the “area”. Big difference legally! As we expect him to amend this sometime in the near future, until then, it is unclear how to reach the correct figure.
